Camera Angle Questionnaire Results

Camera Angle Questionnaire

Before I completed  my second photo shoot, I took a questionnaire that included different camera angles that I would most likely use in when taking a photo. I felt that a quationnaire was needed to ensure that readers had an input into what angles would look best on magazines just like my one.
Not only did this give me an idea about what I could include in my magazine, but it also made me focus on the use of angle during my photo shoot, to ensure that I was completing the demands of what the readers would most likely want in the magazine.

I decided to make a questionnaire, this was so then I could be able to include what was wanted into my work. I asked 20 people what camera angles my target audience would rather see on a front page spread. I thought this would be a really good idea to understand and relate to what my target audience would want, and to make sure that I include this so then they would want to buy my magazine.
I found that the results were pretty straight forward. My target audience would like to see a 'worms eye', 'eye level' or 'cantard' camera angle for the front page spread. This then convinced me to make a second photo shoot with the same model to encorporate these angles into my work to make my front page relate to my target audience as much as I can.

Change in Focus & Saturation

Changing focus & saturation of particular photos

I decided to lower the saturation to this photograph. This is because a lot of my other photos are very colourful, so I thought that a change in saturation would be very different compared to my other work. I used the angle called worms eye, this is due to the fact that all of my photos are very straight forward as they are taken eithe rfron on or to the side of the person. I like the way that my model is looking away while playing her guitar. Its more of a natural/ non-forced shot, which is exactly what i am aiming my magazine and photos to look like. This whole natural look for  my photos is exactly what my target audience want. The reason why I know this is because I completed a camera terminology questionaire to my target audience. The reason for creating this was so then I could make sure that I was including the right aspects of the magazine to suit my target audience.

I used the website called Pixlr to edit this photo. I used the feature called 'Splash' to make just the colour of the guitar look more vibrant compared to the dull, colourless background. Also I used the 'Focus' feature which just focuses on the part of the photo that you want by highlighting it like below. As well as making the guitar more striking, I also changed the amount of saturation for the background. This photo was taken on the move (action shot) this is because all of my other photos were all still shots and I wanted to add a variety of photos to aim to attract my target audience to want to buy my magazine.

By using the feature 'Focus' allowed me to blur out the rest of the photo except for the guitar which is the main object of the photograph. I felt that this effect to this photo allows my target audience to clearly identify that my magazine is targeted at viewers who are interested in music.

I used this photo because it was a very clear shot of a guitar. I used the feature called 'Splash' on the website called Canva, this allowed me to increase the amount of the tolerance to the colour of the guitar. This made the overall photograph of the guitar look very striking, due to the black and white background allowing the guitar image to stand out a lot more.
After I completed this editing for this photo, I really wanted to include the edit in one of my final pieces (Front page, Contents or Double Page Spread). I feel like this splash of colour would work really well with my theme of colours of my overall magazine because my colour themes include blue, grey, black and white which are all the colours that are included in this photo above.

2nd Photo Shoot

Outdoor Photo Shoot

I had a separate photo shoot with the same model. This time, I used a different location, which was outside; as well as a difference to the models over look. This was so then the photos that i would be including in my magazine, wouldn't look the same and would interest the readers much more.

I wanted to make sure that my second photo shoot was taken outside, this was because my first one was inside. I wanted a change in environment/background for my photos that were going to be included in my magazine.
Some of the photos below were really staged, but others were taken through natural actions so then I had a variety of photos that I could use.
After taking a few photos quite stanged, I felt as if my overall look of my magazine was very chilled and relaxed so I stopped taking photos that were forced poses and started taking photos of just natural movements such as walking, just about to sit down or just turning around.

After the end of my photo shoot, I then looked back at the photos that were taken. I focused on which photos would most likely look the best to be included in my magazine. The colour of the guitar which was turquoise blue, worked really well with the colour scheme of my indie-pop magazine. I then started thinking about the different effects that I could include on some of the photos to really emphasise the use of the guitar so then readers would know that my magazine is a music magazine.

Below is a risk assessment sheet that I completed before taking photos to ensure that the environment/place where I was taking photographs in was safe to complete the shoot.
This also allows you as the administrator to make everyone aware of the potential risks or risks that are involved in the activity.

Psychographic Terms & Hypodermic Needle Model

What is a psychographic term?

Psychographics is the study of personality, values, opinions, attitudes, interests, and lifestyles. Because this area of research focuses on interests, attitudes, and opinions, psychographic factors are also called IAO variables. Psychographic studies of individuals or communities can be valuable in the fields of marketing, demographics, opinion research, prediction, and social research in general.

These personality types start off with this key. A full type is combined with 4 of these types followed by what sort of personality you have & the way that you look at the world...just like below.

Hypodermic Needle Model

Image result for hypodermic needle theory
A model of communications suggesting that an intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver. It also has a strong effect in the act of communication and audiences. The theory suggests that the mass media could influence a very large group of people directly and uniformly by ‘shooting’ or ‘injecting’ them with appropriate messages designed to trigger a desired response.
Several factors contributed to this "strong effects" theory of communication, including:
- the fast rise and popularization of radio and television
- the emergence of the persuasion industries, such as advertising and propaganda*

Two-step flow

The two-step flow of communication model hypothesizes that ideas flow from mass media to opinion leaders, and from them to a wider population. Introduced by Paul Lazarsfeld, Bernard Berelson, and Hazel Gaudet and Katz and Lazarsfeld developed the theory.
What each step is...
First—Opinion Leaders get information from a media source.
Second—Opinion Leaders then pass the information, along with their interpretation, to others (friends, family, acquaintances, etc.)

Uses and Gratifications

An approach to understanding why and how people actively seek out specific media to satisfy specific needs. UGT is an audience-centred approach to understanding mass communication.

Reception theory

Reception theory is a version of reader response literary theory that emphasizes each particular reader's reception or interpretation in making meaning from a literary text. Reception theory is generally referred to as audience reception in the analysis of communications models.

Obstinate audience theory (active audience)

Raymond A. Bauer - “ one-way influence” -  “transactional model”
Bauer-Eberhart Study - Audience can filter out, distort or fail to recognize perceptual events which do not fit their points of view
Zimmerman-Bauer Study - Audience plays a large part in influencing the message
Advertising Study - People who like advertising found ads enjoyable while people who don’t like advertising found ads annoying and offensive.

Drip Drip Drip effect/ Cultivation differential - Two different interpretations

1. (drip effect, drip-drip effect) In theories of media effects, the notion that the mass media contribute towards gradual changes in the long term, either in individual attitudes or behaviour, or in the form of social changes (alongside other social forces).

2. (drip campaign) In advertising, a campaign in which media expenditure is stretched over a relatively long period, in contrast to burst campaigns. This strategy is often used for ‘reminder campaigns’ or when the goal is to achieve longer-term attitudinal effects.

Target Audience

Target Audience

I wanted to try and create my magazine to not be selected to a certain gender so then I can achieve a larger target audience. The way that I am going to achieve this is by including the colour turquoise blue into my colour scheme.

Image result for fashionable lad

This photo shows a very stylish girl, this is the typical target audience that I want my magazine to interest. The way that she dresses in very hipster and chilled clothing really suits the whole theme of my magazine. The lack of colour as my colour theme gives a sense of laziness as well as a very plain layout.

This photo above also shows young teenagers who are dressed quite casual in very up to date clothing that is very fashionable with. Their attitudes are so chilled, unique & aren't influenced by others as they are very independent and dress the way that they want to.

Reflecting this attitude into my whole layout and set up of my magazine is my main aim. By adding aspects that would suit the target audiences outlook into my cover pieces should attract my suited target audience.

Who are your Target Audience in psychographic terms?

My Target audience in psychographic terms is the 'MOST SPONTANEOUS' & is also known as 'THE ULTIMATE REALIST' which is the code ESTP which consists of E=Extraversion, S=Senses, T=Thinking & P=Perceiving.

This ESTP code describes their personalities to be unconventional approach, fun, gregarious, lives for here and now & is good at problem solving. I feel like this psychographic term really relates to my target audience as its quite a relaxed and chilled personality & this is exactly what sort of theme I wanted. This is because I wanted to try & make my magazine very unique by not abiding by the whole typical layout like others.
